06/23/2018 (Belarus) - Belarus will celebrate its Independence Day with a military parade in central Minsk on Tuesday, 3 July. The column will move along Prospekt Pobediteley Street and is due to arrive at Victory Square for the main event at 1000hrs (0700 UTC). The parade route then continues along Independence Avenue towards the intersection with Starnovskaya Street. Further events are likely throughout the city, as well as a fireworks display. As this is a designated national holiday, disruption to public services, transport, and commerce is expected, and an increased security presence is likely in urban centres nationwide. Rehearsals for the parade will take place on 23 and 28 June, which will most likely cause some localised traffic congestion.
Members in Minsk are advised to remain vigilant in the vicinity of large crowds due to the risk of exposure to potential violence and opportunistic crime. Alternative journey routes should be considered in order to circumvent the parade route, reducing the risk of potential travel delays.
