06/23/2018 (Cote d'Ivoire) - The Union of Forwarders and Importers of Second-Hand Vehicles of Ivory Coast (SNGTIVO-CI) has called for a nationwide mobilisation on Tuesday, 26 June, of its members and supporters against new import regulations. A decree has banned the import of vehicles older than five years. The SNGTIVO-CI Union has criticised the Ministry of Transport for not being included in a consultation committee as promised. The union is reportedly intending to stage a march in Abidjan, but details of this action are yet to be confirmed.
Clients in Ivory Coast's main cities should avoid the affected area and limit time spent in the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence as well as police crowd control and dispersal operations. Clients are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any further planned demonstrations and should heed any directives issued by security forces and local authorities.
