06/23/2018 (Romania) - A protest is set to take place at Piata Victoriei in central Bucharest on Saturday, 23 June from 1700hrs (1400 UTC). The demonstration has been called by anti-government groups to protest against the decision of the chairman of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea to stay in office, despite a prison sentence for corruption. Competing pro and anti-government rallies have been held over recent weeks, with corruption prosecutions a flashpoint for unrest.
Members in Bucharest are advised to avoid the vicinity of any protest or any other large political gathering in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Members should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
