06/23/2018 (Pakistan) - According to local media sources, two soldiers and six militants were killed following a security operation in the village of Spina Mela near Ladha, South Waziristan on Saturday, 23 June. The operation was launched following intelligence reports that the militants had infiltrated a group of internally displaced persons (IDPs). One of the militants killed was reportedly wanted for targeting the local populace and ethnic Maliks specifically. The security operation fell under the wider Radd-ul-Fasaad offensive, an anti-terror operation that has been in force since February 2017, specifically targeting sleeper cells across the country.

Those with operationally-critical travel requirements within the South Waziristan Agency and other parts of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas are advised to subject all movements to strict security risk management protocols following a comprehensive localised threat assessment. Travellers should minimise time spent in the vicinity of police and military buildings, checkpoints and convoys, as these are prime targets for insurgent attacks.
