06/23/2018 (Nigeria) - According to media reports on Saturday, 23 June, Nigerian army troops have successfully cleared several villages in Mafa Local Government Area (LGA), Borno State, of the presence of Boko Haram militants. It is indicated that the troops met fierce resistance in Azaya Kalmari village where gun battles left seven militants dead. Troops proceeded to clear other surrounding villages including Koshebe Kanuri, Buramburi Gana, Kashakasha, Ngudda, Kezamari, Kellori, Koshiri and Ngwon, all located in the remote parts of the LGA.

Those with operationally critical requirements in Borno State and the wider northeast region should conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and ensure that all travel is undertaken in coordination with local security forces and a trusted private security provider. Security and crisis management procedures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
