06/22/2018 (Algeria) - According to local reports on Wednesday, 20 June, Sahrawi demonstrators have been repeatedly protesting these last few days at multiple refugee camps of the Tindouf region. The protests have been called following the death in obscure circumstances of a critic of the current Sahrawi authorities. Local sources indicate that forces loyal to the Polisario political group's leaders fired upon the protesters. This wave of unrest comes before the imminent visit of a UN envoy to the region due to start tomorrow, 23 June and finish on 2 July.

Those in the aforementioned area are advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor the situation in the territory. Travellers should be aware that Western Sahara remains a high-risk operational environment and any required deployments should be only be undertaken following a thorough location specific threat assessment.
