Nurses Plan Strike Actions on 5 and 6 July 12 July, and 12 and 13 July

06/22/2018 (New Zealand) - Local media sources report that New Zealand Nurses Organization (NZNO) has called upon members to go on strike 5 July and 6 July, and on12 July and 13 July to protest the revised collective agreements. Strike actions will start at 0700hrs (1900 UTC) on Thursday 5 July 2018 and end at 0700hrs (1900 UTC) on Friday 6 July 2018 and resume at 0700hrs (1900 UTC) on Thursday 12 July 2018 and end at 0700hrs (1900 UTC) on Friday 13 July 2018. Authorities stated that contingency plans will be implemented to ensure the safety of patients and staff and those emergency medical services will still be available during the strike.

Those in need of medical attention in New Zealand should contact their insurance provider to ascertain the availability of medical services at their nearest private facility. Travellers in New Zealand are further advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of medical facilities due to the risk of potential crowd disturbances amid demonstrations related to the strike action.
