06/22/2018 (Cameroon) - According to local media reports, clashes were reported between Anglophone separatists and security forces in several districts of Bamenda, as well as areas of Mezam County, Northwest Province, on Thursday, 21 June. The fighting primarily took place in the vicinity of the regional hospital. Clashes between members of the security forces and the Ambazonian armed gangs have now been almost daily in the North West and South West regions since the beginning of 2018, with recent incidents being reported in Fako on 17 June and in Tinto on 14 June.

This incident illustrates the risk of violence in the area due to tensions between the Francophone and Anglophone population. Those in the Northwest Region are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness and subject all overland travel in the area to a thorough localised risk assessment and strict journey management protocols. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further updates on the incident.
