06/22/2018 (Guinea) - According to local media sources on Thursday, 21 June, at least three people have been killed and multiple others injured following intercommunal clashes in Dabola village, Faranah Region. It is indicated that members of the Fissaya, Heremakono, Serifoula and Lamia communities were involved in the unrest, which was reportedly over a court ruling regarding a dispute over farmlands. There have been several violent incidents between these communities previously. As a result of the unrest, authorities have deployed a security force to the village.
Given the heightened tensions and an increased threat of intercommunal violence at this time, those near Dabola are advised to remain extremely vigilant. Operationally-critical travel in rural areas should be conducted following a comprehensive localised threat assessment. Travellers should regularly review security management protocols to ensure that they remain commensurate with the evolving local threat environment.
