Multiple Fatalities Reported following Security Operation Targeting Militants in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir

06/22/2018 (India) - At least six people have been killed and more than 20 others injured following a military operation in the Srigufwara area of Anantnag District, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday, 22 June. Four suspected militants, one police officer, and one civilian were killed during a raid on a suspected militant hideout in the Khiram neighbourhood of Srigufwara. Police sources have stated that the suspects are thought to be affiliated with the Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) militant group. The area of has been cordoned off while further security operations take place.

Travellers should anticipate further security operations and associated travel disruption in the area in the medium term. Those in Jammu and Kashmir State are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of security operations and militant activity. Travellers should heed all directives issued by security forces and local authorities and observe any extraordinary security measures that may be in place, including curfews.
