Boko Haram Militants Attack Army Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State

06/21/2018 (Nigeria) - Militants suspected to be members of Boko Haram attacked a market at an army base on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State, killing an unknown number of people. The attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday, 20 June, when a number of suicide bombers blew themselves up within the barracks. The exact number of fatalities is not currently known.
Members are advised to avoid the area of the incident due to ongoing investigations in the area. Those with operationally critical requirements in Borno State and the wider northeast region should conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and ensure that all travel is undertaken in coordination with local security forces and a trusted private security provider. Security and crisis management procedures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
