06/21/2018 (Indonesia) - Nationwide local elections are scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 27 June. International government sources indicate that terrorist organisations in the country pose a credible threat during the electoral period. Intelligence suggests that known extremist groups may be planning attacks in Indonesia at this time. Political unrest is also anticipated, particularly during electoral campaign rallies and in the vicinity of polling stations. Papua, Maluku, and West Kalimantan provinces have been identified as the most prone to conflict during the election. Disruption to public services, commerce, and overland travel are also expected during the election as the day has been declared a public holiday.

Those in Indonesia are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness during the election campaign and polling, particularly in Papua, Maluku, West Kalimantan, Bali and main urban centres. Travellers should be aware of potential disruption during the vote and minimise non-essential travel in the vicinity of polling stations and other electoral infrastructure. Monitor local media sources to remain apprised of political rallies and election-related events in your area of operations.
