06/21/2018 (Portugal) - In the evening between Saturday, 23 June, and Sunday, 24 June, Porto will celebrate the Sao Joao do Porto festival commemorating of the birth of St. John the Baptist. The festival will be marked with a late night march from Avenida dos Aliados towards Riberia square as well as further events in the Fontainhas, Miragaia and Massarelos districts. Porto Metro has announced there will be localised disruptions to overland and underground services, including the Red, Blue and Orange lines. In addition, there will be a fireworks display at 0001hrs on Sunday (2300 UTC, 23 June) near the Luiz I Bridge, which is likely to draw large crowds and cause some overland travel disruption.
Members are advised that similar gatherings in the past have been mostly peaceful. It is advised to remain vigilant in the vicinity of large crowds due to the risk of exposure to potential violence and opportunistic crime. Alternative journey routes should be considered in order to circumvent any gatherings, reducing the risk of potential travel delays.
