06/20/2018 (Eritrea) - Eritrea will mark Martyr's Day to honour those who died in the War for Independence on Wednesday, 20 June, and disruptions to public services and travel are expected. Martyr's Day is a national holiday to allow citizens to take part in parades and events in urban centres across the country. Disruption to public services, transport, and commerce is expected, and an increased security presence is likely in urban centres.
Though the events are expected to remain peaceful and, travellers in Eritrea should expect localised overland travel disruption and limited access to public services. Travellers should remain vigilant in the vicinity of large crowds due to the potential for opportunistic crime and exposure to crowd disturbances. Monitor local media reports for updates on road closures and travel disruption in your area of operation.
