06/20/2018 (Japan) - According to reports from international news sources on Wednesday, 20 June, over 1,700 people have taken refuge in public shelters in Osaka Prefecture following fears that heavy rains will trigger floods and landslides. The weather agency issued a heavy rain warning for the city of Ibaraki and other parts of the prefecture for over 150mm (6 inches) of rainfall in the 24 hours from 1800hrs (0900UTC). The region is recovering from a 6.1-degree earthquake which occurred on Monday, 18 June, and authorities have covered house roofs damaged in the earthquake with plastic sheeting to prepare for rain and have advised around 1,800 people to evacuate over fears of possible landslides.

Clients in Osaka Prefecture are advised to familiarise themselves with emergency protocols, exercise situational awareness including caution when travelling, and avoid flooded areas as much as possible, moving to higher ground if necessary. Severe delays are expected whilst emergency and clear up operations are ongoing. Personnel should monitor local media for weather-related updates, heeding any directives issued by authorities.
