06/20/2018 (Nigeria) - According to reports from local media sources on Wednesday, 20 June, at least one person has died and over 100 houses have been destroyed after heavy rainstorms swept through the Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto state. The Council Chairman of the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Hauna, said that seven people had also been injured in the storms and that the local government council secretariat, schools and other public buildings had been destroyed. The State Emergency Management Agency and the national Management Agency have responded to the incident to provide support for those affected by the storms.

Those in the Illela area are advised to monitor local media sources for further weather-related updates and review contingency measures to minimise the impact on business continuity. Travellers should exercise a heightened degree of caution due to likely hazardous driving conditions caused by flooding and debris and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
