Two District Reserve Guard Officers Injured during Clash with Naxalite Militants in Chhattisgarh

06/19/2018 (India) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 19 June, two District Reserve Guard (DRG) officers have been injured during a clash with Naxalite militants in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred in a forest close to the village of Tamora on the evening of Monday, 19 June, when a team of DRG were conducting a search operation in the region. The officers were cordoning off an area of the forest when they came into contact with a group of militants. Two officers were injured in the ensuing gun battle and two militants were killed. The Naxalites retreated into the forest and DRG reinforcements were sent to secure the area.

Those in the Chhattisgarh state are advised to maintain a heightened level of situational awareness and monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any security operations in the area. Furthermore, travellers should subject all overland travel to a localised threat assessment and minimise time spent in the vicinity of security forces vehicles, patrols and bases as well as government infrastructure which may be targeted in rebel attacks. Any suspicious items or activity should be immediately reported to security forces.
