06/19/2018 (Ghana) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 19 June, heavy rain has caused significant flooding in urban areas of Accra, causing damage to roads, houses and communication infrastructure. The flooding is thought to have been worsened by blocked channels and poor drainage systems. Since the rains started the Deputy National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has tasked an Emergency Response Unit, comprising a team of national security operatives and NADMO officials to assist with clean-up operations. Member should note that the Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned of further heavy rains on Tuesday night which will likely increase the flood risk further.

Members in Accra are advised to monitor the local media for any weather updates or travel advisories from the authorities that could impinge on travel plans and business continuity. Travellers should be vigilant regarding flash floods and landslides brought about by extreme weather conditions.
