06/18/2018 (Afghanistan) - According to reports by national monitors on Monday, 18 June, senior Taliban commanders have ordered their fighters back to resume attacks on US-led forces in the county, following a temporary ceasefire to celebrate Eid. Members are now once again forbidden from entering government-controlled territory and urban areas. The announcement follows a suicide car bombing which killed numerous Taliban fighters in Jalalabad, Nangarhar which is thought to have been planned by Islamic State (IS) militants. The bombing was likely conducted with the aim of destabilising the fragile and temporary peace process. In the same announcement a Taliban spokesperson blamed the Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani, for exploiting the ceasefire in order to attack its members.

Afghanistan remains an extremely high-risk environment and all non-essential travel to the province should be avoided. Members conducting critical deployments are advised to operate under the strictest possible security measures and journey management protocols. All movement outside of secure compounds should utilise a trusted security provider and should be undertaken in coordination with local authorities and security forces.
