06/18/2018 (India) - According to local media reports on Monday, 18 June, a number of major haulage companies and truck operators have launched an indefinite nationwide strike against an increase in diesel prices and third party insurance premiums. The president of the All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners' Associations has claimed that 60 percent of the country's goods vehicles will cease to operate during the strike. Although the accuracy of this figure is questionable, the strike is likely to cause a temporary reduction in the availability of perishable goods due to supply chain disruption.

Members should avoid the vicinity of demonstrations in order to minimise the risk of exposure incidental violence, opportunistic crime and law enforcement dispersal techniques which are associated with crowd situations. Travellers should monitor local media for any further developments on the protests and associated travel disruption.
