Suspected PKK Terrorists Arrested During Security Operations in Van Province

06/18/2018 (Turkey) - According to reports from local media sources on Monday, 18 June, 19 suspected terrorists from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have been arrested during a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorism and Special Operations Branch Directorate in Van province. The authorities announced that those arrested had provided organisational and logistical support for the banned organisation and that they had seized a large number of document s and digital material during the operation.

These arrests highlight the security risks posed by the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in Turkey. Those in the region are advised to monitor local media sources for updates on the ongoing militant activity and security deployments in their particular area of operations and heed any directives issued by security forces and local authorities. Travel in southeastern Turkey should be subject to a localised threat assessment and only undertaken with comprehensive security risk management measures in place. Those with travel plans in the region are advised to liaise with local authorities to identify no-go areas and ascertain the safest travel routes.
