06/18/2018 (Iran) - On Monday, 18 June, Turkish military officials have reported that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have killed 35 members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in a series of large-scale airstrikes against targets in the Qandil region of northern Iraq. The airstrikes were reportedly carried out on Friday, 15 June and follow earlier strikes carried out on 6 June on targets in the Hakurk, Gara, Metina, Zap, Qandil and Avasin Basyan regions.

The Iraqi-Turkish border remains a focal point of Turkish and Kurdish conflict and as such any non-essential travel to the area should be avoided. Any operationally-critical deployments in the area should ensure that all movements are subject to stringent journey management procedures and conducted in liaison with local authorities and security forces in order to avoid areas of ongoing security operations.
