06/18/2018 (Uganda) - According to emerging reports from social media on Monday, 18 June, at least three people have been killed in clashes between members of the Dinka and the Nuer tribes in the Rhino refugee camp in Arua District. The tribes are refugees that have fled violence in South Sudan, and the animosity between the two tribes is culturally historic and systematic. Politically the Dinka support President Salva Kiir and are pitted against the Nuer tribe, who back former Vice-President Riek Machar. The UN refugee agency has previously tried to separate the Dinka and Nuer groups into different camps, but violence still occasionally occurs between the two groups.

Travellers are advised to avoid the vicinity of the refugee camp in the immediate term until tensions de-escalate. Members are encouraged to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any further incidents.
