Suicide Bombing Reported in Jalalabad City, Nangarhar Province

06/17/2018 (Afghanistan) - According to emerging social media reports on Sunday, 17 June, a suicide bomber has carried out an attack in the Pashtunistan Square area (Police District One) of Jalalabad city, Nangarhar, where members of the Taliban were celebrating a recent ceasefire initiative by the Afghan government. At least ten people are thought to have been killed and injured in the blast which hit a large crowd of people. Further details are awaited.

Those in Jalalabad should avoid the vicinity of the incident due to the ongoing emergency and security operations and the risk of secondary attacks. Members should monitor local media sources for any further updates on this developing incident. Due to the high level of militant activity in the region, members should be aware that Nangahar remains an extremely high-risk security environment and any non-essential travel to the area should be avoided.
