Major Disruption Caused as Heavy Rains Cause Flash Flooding and Landslides Across Country

06/17/2018 (India) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 17 June, heavy rains and subsequent flash floods and landslides have caused at least 17 deaths in north-eastern states over the past 48 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department said that monsoon conditions were affecting Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Assam. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated that over 14,000 people had lost their homes after heavy rains submerged parts of the state and that the authorities in the state were running 213 relief camps in which over 100,000 people had taken shelter.
