06/17/2018 (Cameroon) - According to emerging reports from social media, Cameroonian military forces have allegedly shot and killed unarmed civilians in Batibo on Sunday, 17 June. There are reports of multiple incidents of armed personnel, blindfolding and shooting unarmed civilians in the town, two people are so far confirmed killed. The ongoing conflict between the Francophone and Anglophone speakers in the region makes events like this far to common in the area.
Members are advised that this incident illustrates the risk of violence in the area due to tensions between the Francophone and Anglophone population. Those in the Southwest Region are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness and subject all overland travel in the area to a thorough localised risk assessment and strict journey management protocols.
