05/23/2018 (Syria) - At least 30 people have been killed following an attack on a military outpost near Palmyra on Tuesday, 22 May. The attack was reportedly carried out by Islamic State group (IS) militants, targeting Syrian troops and Iranian-backed militiamen. Reports indicated that armoured vehicles and suicide bombs were used in the attack.

Members are currently advised to reconsider all travel to Syria given the extreme conflict risk. All travel outside of secure compounds should be undertaken on an operationally-critical basis only in coordination with local authorities and trusted security providers. Those in Syria should continually review crisis management plans and security procedures to ensure they remain commensurate with the current local threat environment.
