05/23/2018 (Burkina Faso) - The United States Embassy in Ouagadougou has issued a security alert on Tuesday, 22 May, regarding heightened security measures in the city. The warning comes amid a large-scale counter-terror operation in which several people were killed on Tuesday in a shoot-out in the Rayongo district of the city. The Embassy has imposed a curfew on employees and advised travellers to avoid the Karpala and Balkuy neighbourhoods in Arrondissement 11 due to ongoing police operations.
Members in Ouagadougou should remain vigilant amid the heightened tensions and ongoing security operations. Travellers should be mindful of the visible security presence and report any suspicious items or activity immediately.
