05/23/2018 (Afghanistan) - The Ministry of Defense stated on Wednesday, 23 May, that four Islamic State (IS) group militants were killed in airstrikes carried out by the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Achin district of Nangarhar Province. Afghan authorities are intensifying anti-terror operations as the IS group's presence on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border has grown by 20% in a year; Achin district being considered as a stronghold of Islamic State group.

Due to the presence of IS and Taliban militants and ongoing security operations, travel in Nangarhar province should be limited to operationally-critical deployments. Those in the province are advised to operate under the strictest possible security risk management measures in coordination with local authorities and a trusted security provider. Security procedures should be regularly reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate to the evolving local threat environment.
