05/23/2018 (Uganda) - Emerging social media feeds report on Wednesday, 23 May, that riots broke out at the Omugo refugee camp in Arua district, as part of a protest staged by refugees over the delayed distribution of food. Sources report that aid workers are fleeing the camp through Enyau River to find shelter on the other side of the river bank. The Omugo refugee settlement camp was opened in August 2017 to host refugees from South Sudan. Further information is due to be expected.

Travellers are advised to avoid the vicinity of the Omugo refugee settlement camp until tensions in the area have reduced. Travellers should avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Uganda due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence.
