05/22/2018 (Indonesia) - Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency has warned residents in the vicinity of Mount Merapi on Java Island to remain vigilant following the volcano's second eruption this month on Monday, 21 May. Mount Merapi, the most active volcano in the country, spewed a column of smoke and volcanic material into the air. Authorities have reportedly issued evacuation orders to villages on its slopes and have advised hikers to remain clear of the surrounding area.

Members on Java Island are advised to maintain an increased level of vigilance due to further potential eruptions and should monitor local media sources in order to remain apprised of any government advisories. Any directives issued by local authorities should be adhered to, including evacuation orders. Travellers should avoid non-essential travel in the vicinity of affected areas in the medium term.
