05/22/2018 (Haiti) - Local media reports indicate that labour unions have called for workers to attend a protest rally in Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, 22 May. The march will be held to call for fairer working conditions and an increased minimum wage. Though not yet confirmed, participants are expected to gather at SONAPI industrial park before proceeding towards the labour ministry building. A similar demonstration held on 21 May reportedly culminated into violent clashes.
Members are advised to avoid the vicinity of the demonstration in order to limit exposure to incidental violence, opportunistic crime, and heavy-handed police response. Monitor local media sources for information regarding further rallies and associated travel disruption.
