Multiple Injuries after Cross-Border Mortar Fire near Arnia, Jammu and Kashmir

05/22/2018 (India) - According to local media, four civilians and one Special Police Officer (SPO) have been injured in a mortar attack in Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir state, India, on Monday, 21 May. Pakistani Rangers reportedly fired mortar shells across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting Vikram, Chinaz and Nikowal border outposts. An Indian Border Security Force (BSF) official stated that BSF forces have retaliated, however no further details are available.

Members in the aforementioned area are advised to avoid the vicinity of Line of Control in order to limit the chances of being affected by incidental violence and heavy-handed security response. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
