05/22/2018 (Nigeria) - Local media reports indicate that the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has called for members of Nigeria's Christian community to attend protests in Makurdi and Lagos on Tuesday, 22 May. The events are being held in response to the recent targeted killings of Christians by Fulani herdsmen. A large demonstration will take place in Makurdi, coinciding with the burial of two priests killed in an attack on a Church in Benue State in April. A procession will also be held in the Ikeja area of Lagos, beginning at St Leo's Catholic Church before proceeding towards the state governor's office. Further demonstrations may also take place in Christian communities nationwide.

Members are advised to avoid the vicinity of all political gatherings and demonstrations in Nigeria in order to limit exposure to incidental violence, opportunistic crime, and heavy-handed police response. Monitor local media sources for information regarding the events and associated travel disruption.
