March Planned Today in Central Paris amid Public Sector Reform; Traffic Disruption Expected

05/22/2018 (France) - On Tuesday, 22 May, the unions Les CFE/CGC, CFTC, CGT, FAFP, FO, FSU, SOLIDAIRES will stage a demonstration in Paris to protest against the public sector reforms intended by the French government. Protesters will start to gather at Place de la Republique at 1230hrs (1130 UTC) while the march is due to start at 1400hrs (1300 UTC) heading to Place de la Bastille via Boulevard du Temple and Boulevard Beaumarchais, and will continue up to Place de la Nation via Rue de Lyon, Avenue Daumesnil and Boulevard Diderot. Security forces will be deployed along the march and the areas bordering the itinerary of the protest close to circulation. Road traffic will be seriously disrupted in the Paris' 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th arrondissements. Public transportation services will also be disrupted; the following subway stations will be closed or partially inaccessible: Rue du Temple and Square Henri-Christiné access to lines 3, 5, 8, 9 and 11 of the Republic subway station will be condemned; the stations, Filles-du-Calvaire, Saint-Sebastien- Froissart and Chemin-Vert of the line 8 will be closed, as well as the station Bastille providing access to the lines 1, 5 and 8.

Clients are advised to avoid the vicinity of any protests or other political gatherings due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Travellers should monitor local media outlets to remain apprised of any demonstrations in their area of operations and heed any directives issued by local authorities, including road diversions and closures that may be instituted as the result of an ongoing protest.
