05/22/2018 (Bangladesh) - Local media sources report that on Monday, 22 May, at least ten alleged drug dealers have been killed overnight in a crackdown carried out by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police as part of a nationwide anti-narcotics operation. The operations took place in the divisions of Chittagong, Khulna, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Narayanganj. Since operations began on Saturday, 12 May, at least 37 people allegedly involved in drug trafficking have been killed by security forces across the country. Further operations are expected as Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, recently ordered security forces to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking in Bangladesh.

Members should monitor local media sources for further updates on the police operations and to remain apprised of any associated disruption in their area. Travellers should maintain a heightened level of situational awareness in Bangladesh and heed any directives issued by police and local authorities.
