Thunderstorms Intensify ahead of Monsoon Season; Several Casualties by Lighting

05/22/2018 (Bangladesh) - Official sources reported on Tuesday, 22 May, that at least 200 people have been killed and many other injured by lightning strikes since last March. Thunderstorms are due to intensify ahead of the beginning of the monsoon season. At this time, fatalities reported are mainly concentrated in the central and northern parts of the country. Authorities have released risk mitigation by advising to regularly monitor weather forecasts and find shelter in building with concrete ceiling during thunderstorms.

Those in Bangladesh should stay abreast of the latest weather-related developments by closely following local media sources. Members are advised to stay clear of high-risk areas for floods and landslides during or following intense precipitations as precautionary measures.
