05/22/2018 (Libya) - Emerging social media feeds report that on Tuesday, 22 May, at least two military personnel belonging to the 152 Battalion of the Libyan National Army (LNA) have been killed after a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) was detonated at a security checkpoint at Gate 60 in the southeast part of Ajdabiya, Al Wahat District. According to sources, it is the third such VBIED attack targeting Gate 60 since March. It is believed that the Islamic State group is responsible for the attack, although no official claim of responsibility has been made at this time.

Those with operationally-critical travel requirements in the Ajdabiya area should first conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and subject all movement to stringent security risk management procedures. Travellers are advised to liaise with security forces and local authorities for further updates regarding the local threat environment.
