05/22/2018 (Somalia) - On Tuesday, 22 May, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released a Tropical Storm Alert after a tropical storm which developed in the northern Indian Ocean is due to affect the Bari Region in Puntland in the next 24 to 48 hours. The tropical storm is likely to cause moderate rains and winds of medium strength. The impact is expected to be of low magnitude but necessary precautions should be undertaken to lessen the incident risks. Wind could lead to destruction of weak structures and trigger flash floods in the coastal areas of Bari.

Members in Puntland are advised to pay close attention to local media sources for weather-related updates. Due to the uncertain path of the cyclone, members should maintain a heightened level of situational awareness, review contingency plans and heed any directives issued by local authorities. Both overland and air journeys should be reviewed to ensure that they are not affected by the weather system.
