Official Wounded in Failed Assassination Attempt in Chapultepec Area, Mexico City

05/22/2018 (Mexico) - Authorities reported that on Monday, 21 May, one official has been injured in an assassination attempt staged by an organized criminal gang which took place at approximatively 1700hrs (2200 UTC) in the area of Chapultepec in Mexico City. The target has been identified as being an ex-prosecutor, Luis Carlos Najera. Additionally, three police officers and four civilians have been reported as sustaining injuries as a result of a fierce shootout between security forces and gang members. Security forces rushed to the site and managed to apprehend six suspects and recover several weapons. At this time, authorities suspect the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel to be responsible.
