05/21/2018 (Mali) - Over a dozen civilians have been killed in an armed attack in Boulikessi market, Mopti region, on Saturday, 19 May. International media sources report that an armed man attacked a Malian soldier and the civilians were killed in the ensuing confrontation. The identity of the attacker and the motive behind the attack is currently unknown.
Those with operationally-critical travel requirements in the Mopti region of Mali should first conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and subject all movement to stringent security risk management procedures. Travellers are advised to liaise with security forces and local authorities to identify areas with ongoing security operations in the region. Contingency measures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
