05/21/2018 (Thailand) - On Tuesday, 22 May, the political opposition led by the Democracy Restoration Group will stage a march in Bangkok to urge the military government, the National Council for Peace and Order, to hold an election in November 2018. At least 1,000 people are expected to attend the march which is due to start at Bangkok's Thammasat University and proceed toward Government House. The Royal Thai Police has declared that stringent security measures have been implemented and have advised bystanders to avoid the vicinity of the demonstration.

Travellers are advised that a ban was introduced in May 2014 after a coup d'etat, which forbids gatherings of more than five people. All public gatherings and demonstrations, whether planned or spontaneous, should be avoided where possible due to the risk of exposure to potential violence and opportunistic crime. Alternative routes should be considered to circumvent protest sites and minimise inconvenience from any travel delays.
