Local Residents Storm Police Station in Makoko, Lagos, in Protest over Police Killings

05/20/2018 (Nigeria) - According to local media reports on Sunday, 20 May, a group of local residents has stormed a police station in Makoko, Lagos, in protest over the killing of members of the community during a police raid on the Acts of Apostle Church, Ori Oke on Thursday. The crowd surrounded Panti Police Station before trying to gain entry, demanding that the officers be prosecuted. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in Makoko has since released a statement promising that he will investigate the matter and prosecute all those involved in the attack.

Members in Lagos are advised to remain vigilant in the vicinity of Makoko District due to the risk of incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed security response associated with protests. Travellers are advised to monitor local media reports for further information on the unrest and any associated travel disruption.
