Ongoing Taliban Offensive against Afghan Armed Forces in Ajristan District, Ghazni Province

05/20/2018 (Afghanistan) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 20 May, a Taliban offensive has been reported in the Ajristan district, Ghazni Province, and multiple clashes are ongoing between the insurgents and the Afghan armed forces. Telecommunication systems in the area are down and roads have been closed off by Taliban gunmen. The Taliban claimed they have taken control of the district. Multiple fatalities and injuries have been reported. According to local media, insurgents had looted and set fire to as many as 180 houses in the district.

Members in Ghazni province are advised to avoid the district in the immediate to medium term due to the ongoing security operation and risk of further attacks. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on the operation and associated disruption in the area.
