Multiple Injured Following Attack Against APC Congress Venue in Akure, Ondo State

05/20/2018 (Nigeria) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 20 May, at least 50 people have been injured by unidentified machete-armed men at the venue of the parallel state congress of the All Progressive Congress (APC) party in Akure, Ondo state. The assailants reportedly arrived at the venue in six vehicles, including three buses, armed with guns and edged weapons. After wounding 50 politicians, journalists and bystanders, and vandalising the premises, the attackers fled the scene. The incident follows similar attacks against the APC congresses. Investigations are ongoing in the area.

Members are advised to avoid any political gatherings due to the risk of incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed crowd dispersal operations. Members should closely follow local media outlets for updates on this incident and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
