Suicide Bombing Foiled in Gashua, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State

05/20/2018 (Nigeria) - According to emerging local media feeds on Sunday, 20 May, a suicide bomb attack has been foiled in a mosque in Gashua, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe state. It is reported that the assailant's suicide vest malfunctioned. The attacker, believed to be a woman affiliated to the Boko Haram militant group, was restrained by the locals, arrested and handed over to troops at Azare in Bauchi state. Further information is awaited.

Those with operationally critical requirements in Yobe State and the wider northeast region should conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and ensure that all travel is undertaken in coordination with local security forces and a trusted private security provider. Security and crisis management procedures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment. Any suspicious activity should be immediately reported to security forces.
