Several Fatalities Reported following Lightning Storm in Koh Kong Province; Dozens Killed Since Beginning of 2018

05/19/2018 (Cambodia) - According to media reports, at least five people were killed following a lightning storm in the Thmar Baing district of Koh Kong province on Friday, 18 May. The group was sheltering from a downpour in a mountainous area when the incident occurred. Further storms are likely in conjunction with the southwest's rainy season, which runs from May to November. According to Cambodia's National Committee for Disaster Management, the number of lightning deaths has now reached 50 people since January.
Those in Cambodia should stay abreast of the latest weather-related developments by closely following local media sources. Members are advised to stay clear of high-risk areas for floods and landslides during or following intense precipitations as precautionary measures during the rainy season.
