05/19/2018 (Morocco) - On Sunday, 20 May, a large protest will take place in central Casablanca in response to the US decision to move its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem and the resulting unrest on the Israel-Gaza border. The protest is expected to begin at 1100hrs (UTC) at Annasr Square in the Derb Omar neighbourhood. The attendees will then march along Boulevard Mohammed VI before concluding at the UN Plaza. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected near the protest and march route. Related protests are possible in Casablanca and elsewhere in Morocco in the coming weeks.
Members in Casablanca are advised to avoid the vicinity of the demonstrations in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and heavy-handed security response. Members should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
