Indian Army Engaged in Firefight with Militant Group in North Kashmir

05/18/2018 (India) - According to government sources on Friday, 18 May, Indian Army personnel exchanged gunfire with an unidentified group of militants briefly on Thursday night in north Kashmir's Bandipora region. The troops are thought to have been attacked in Bonikhan Mohalla Hajin as they conducted a training exercise. The incident comes a day after a local resident from Hajin, was abducted from a plant nursery and killed by members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group. No personnel were injured in this most recent attack.

Those in country should monitor local media sources for further updates on conflict developments and heed any directives issued by local authorities. Due to the persistent threat from militancy security risk management procedures should be strongly considered. Those travelling should avoid areas with active military or police operations.
