05/18/2018 (Thailand) - Police officers on Friday, 18 May attempted to arrest a pro-democracy leader in advance of a planned protest in Bangkok on Tuesday, 22 May to mark the fourth anniversary of 2014's military coup. The man, Prayuth Chan-ocha was handing out pamphlets critical of the regime when officers attempted to take him into custody. Police did not pursue him as he left to board a train. A protest movement has been gaining momentum in the country, calling on the military government to hold promised elections.

Members are advised to closely follow local media outlets for further information and updates on the protests planned for Tuesday. Members should avoid the vicinity of any protests or large gatherings due to the risk of incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed crowd dispersal operations.
